Candidate requirements

• At least 18 years of age
• Have a High School diploma or GED certificate
• Have a Michigan driver’s license with satisfactory driving record (maximum 5 points)
• Live in or on the border of the community
• Be in acceptable physical condition
• Pass a background check, driving record review and a drug screening

Paid On-Call Firefighters Pledge of Commitment

The White Lake Township Fire Department is proud of our
efforts to maintain highly trained and ethical members of this Department.
A considerable amount of time, energy, and resources will be put into
your training and development.

The budget expenditures for your basic requirements alone are:

• Firefighter I & II State of Michigan Certification - $ 250.00 – $500.00
• Emergency Medical Technician – (State of Michigan) Certification - $750.00
• Medical Physical Testing, Hepatitis B Vaccine, and TB testing - $300.00
• Turnout/Firefighting gear - $1,500.00
• Additional training support - $1,000.00
• Credit for missed calls while attending formal training - $1,000.00
Approximate Total Department Investment (Cost) - $5,500.00

Within your first two years, you will be expected to complete
your training. In addition to the above mandated Department and state
certifications, you will be expected to become certified and proficient
within our Department to drive and operate the following apparatus:
• Brush Trucks
• Tankers
• Rescues
• Engines

Pledge of Commitment
As a recruit, you should clearly understand the commitment we are
making by accepting the challenge of training and equipping you to
become a fully certified Paid On-Call Firefighter.
In turn, we expect a commitment by our personnel.
As a Paid On-Call Firefighter you are expected to:

• Pledge a minimum two years of service
• Follow Department rules and regulations
• Maintain a clean criminal record
• Maintain a good driving record
• Attend 66% of regular (two per month) training drills
• Respond to 15% of the Township’s emergency calls (average 15% = 20 calls)

While you are in the process of becoming certified, the Township will
pay for your time in responding to emergency calls as a new On-Call recruit.
If you meet your commitments, the Township will also cover your
medical testing and training costs.

Steps for hiring
• Submit application to the Township Clerk’s Office
• Background and driving record review
• Physical agility test
• General aptitude test
• Interview
• Medical examination that includes drug screening
• Notification of candidate acceptance
• Informational orientation and issuance of Safety Equipment, radio, etc.
• Candidate joins the Department as a probationary On-Call Firefighter
• Upon successful completion, probationary On-Call Firefighter will be placed on regular status

Applications will be accepted from January 1st through April 1st .
