Water Department

Under the administration of the Township Supervisor, the Department of Public Works is composed of (8) full time employees; this includes (1) Director, (3) Utilities Maintenance Workers, (2) Maintenance Worker, and (2) Office Personnel.

  • White Lake has provided water to the Township residents since 1980.  We have over 2,400 water accounts.  It is the Water Departments goal to provide safe drinking water and fire protection to White Lake Township citizens.
  • White Lake Township Water Department currently maintains 56 miles of water main.  It is composed of (2) water treatment plants, (3) well houses, (9) drinking water wells, (2) one million gallon water towers, (1) booster station, and (764) fire hydrants.

White Lake Township Ordinance 22 and the Department of Environmental Quality, through the State of Michigan, governs and regulates the water system.

Hydrant Flushing Spring Hydrant Flushing Is Complete!

Spring hydrant flushing is complete! We will begin fall flushing the day after Labor Day. 

Customers may experience yellow or rusty colored water during hydrant flushing in the area. If it is not clear after a few minutes of running Cold water only, please call the DPW at 248-698-7700 EXT.8 to find out if they are currently flushing near your home.

Aspen Meadows Iron Filtration Plant Aspen Meadows Iron Filtration Plant is online!

Aspen Meadows Iron Filtration Plant is finally online and serving iron free water to customers in the northern water district. After a long construction project that was plagued by the same material shortages that were happening to every industry over the last couple years, we are very happy to be online and running well. The plant serves the areas of Aspen Meadows, M-59, Worthington Crossing, Twin Lakes Village, Crown Ridge, Suburban Knolls, and Reserve at Tull Lake. Aspen Meadows is the second iron filtration plant in the system. Village Acres Iron Filtration Plant went online in 2017.

Hydrant Painting Crew 2026 Hydrant Painting

The hydrant painting crew is out painting again this summer. Hydrants are operated and leak tested while prepping for paint. Work orders are created for any problems found using the CityWorks GIS system which gets sent directly to the inbox of the water system operators. Most repairs are completed within a day or two. Many are knocked out same day! The CityWorks GIS system allows us to assign and track maintenance on individual assets in the system like hydrants. So not only do we know which ones need to be painted, we know the maintenance history of each one.

CIP Cost Estimate GIS Locating

DPS has begun work on our GIS Mapping Program (Geographical Information System). This system uses precise GPS technology to aid in locating and maintaining utility assets, planning, and speed up emergency response. We will also be able to gather information faster and offer improved customer service.

CDSMI - Water Service Line Inventory

The Michigan Safe Drinking Water Act, 1976 PA 399, as amended, requires that water supplies develop and maintain a Complete Distribution Systems Materials Inventory (CDSMI) and submit the inventory to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) by October 16, 2024.
