Spring Hydrant Flushing will begin Monday, April 6th!

Hydrant Flushing

DPS operators will begin spring hydrant flushing on Monday April 6th in the areas of Aspen Meadows, M-59 west of Porter, Sierra Heights, Heritage Hills, Settler's Point, Parkview Heights, and Williams Lake Crossing.

The process is expected to take about two weeks to complete. Daily updates will be posted here, the Township Facebook page and on the Township App (MIWHITELAKE).

Customers may experience yellow or rusty colored water during hydrant flushing in the area. If it is not clear after a few minutes of running Cold water only, please call the DPW at 248-698-7700 EXT.8 to find out if they are currently flushing near your home.

The Township thanks you for your cooperation while they complete this important water quality process.

Key Facts About Hydrant Flushing:

Why It's Done: Ensures proper functioning of hydrants, verifies fire flow, and improves water quality by clearing mineral buildup.

What to Expect: Discolored Water: Water may appear yellow, red, or brown due to iron sediment, but it is generally not a health hazard.

Pressure Changes: You may experience temporary low water pressure.

What to Do: Postpone Laundry: Avoid doing laundry or using dishwashers during scheduled flushing hours to prevent staining from discolored water.

Clear Your Lines: If you notice discolored water AFTER we have completer flushing your neighborhood, run your cold-water tap (preferably a bathtub or basement sink) until the water runs clear.

Check Water Softeners: If water is discolored, put your water softener into regeneration mode afterward. This is a great time to reset the clock on your softener ensuring it is backwashing at your prefered time.
